abstract | 2-Phenyl-1 : 3-propanediol dicarbamate is prepared by ester interchange between 2-phenyl-1 : 3-propanediol and a carbamate of an alcohol, said alcohol having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. In an example ethanol is distilled from a mixture of the diol and ethyl urethane in anhydrous toluene containing a catalytic amount of aluminium isopropylate to give, on working up, the required dicarbamate.
