titleOfInvention Method of preparing derivatives from usnic acid
abstract The invention comprises addition products of usnic acid obtained by reacting usnic acid dissolved or suspended in an inert organic solvent with a quaternary ammonium base or a salt thereof, or with a quaternary ammonium base or a salt thereof and an amino-sugar. The usnic acid and the quaternary ammonium base or a salt thereof, or the quaternary ammonium b base or a salt thereof and an amino-sugar. The usnic acid and the quaternary ammonium base or a salt thereof, or the quaternary ammonium base or a salt thereof and the amino-sugar may be reacted in equimolecular quantities. Suitable quaternary ammonium salts are benzyldimethyl - (2 - [2 - (p - 1,1,3,3 - tetramethyl - butylphenoxy) - ethoxy] - ethyl) - ammonium chloride and (2 - [2 - (p - di - isobutylphenoxy) - ethoxy] - ethyl) - dimethylbenzyl - ammonium bromide. Suitable inert solvents are acetone, dioxane, ethanol, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, methanol, a propyleneglycol, toluene or trichloroethylene. In the example an addition compound is prepared by reacting usnic acid, benzyldimethyl - (2 - [2 - (p - 1,1,3,3 - tetramethyl - butylphenoxy) - ethoxy] - ethyl - ammonium chloride and N-methyl-l-glucosamine.
