| abstract | In a "cold" permanent waving process, hair is treated with an aqueous solution of lithium thioglycollate at a pH of 7 to 10. The pH may be adjusted with lithium, sodium or potassium hydroxide and the composition may also contain a non-ionic wetting agent, perfume or thickener or a dispersion or emulsion of polyvinyl acetate or lanolin. The hair may be after-treated with an oxidizing-agent. The analogous process of straightening curly hair is also described. Specification 778,308 is referred to. |
