titleOfInvention Organic calcium salts
abstract The invention comprises the calcium salts of acids obtained by reacting cane sugar with an a -halogeno-alkanoic acid (whereby at least three hydroxyl groups of the sugar are etherified by the corresponding a -hydroxy-alkanoic acid). The salts contain a high percentage of calcium, are readily soluble in water, and are suitable for parenteral administration of calcium. In an example: cane sugar dissolved in strong sodium hydroxide solution is treated dropwise at -10 DEG C. with concentrated aqueous chloracetic acid, the mixture allowed to stand, treated with methanol, the resulting precipitate dissolved in water, neutralized and calcium chloride solution added, whereupon the calcium salt is precipitated with methanol.
