titleOfInvention Acrylonitrile polymers
abstract Grafted acrylonitrile polymers are heated with an aqueous acid solution of an aldehyde, e.g. formaldehyde or acetaldehyde, in order to prevent discoloration of the polymer when subjected to alkaline conditions. In the example, yarn made from a graft polymer of acrylonitrile containing 15 per cent of a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol is heated at 80 DEG C. for 30 minutes in an aqueous solution of formaldehyde and sulphuric acid. Specification 742,900 is referred to.
