titleOfInvention | A process for the recovery of acetylene from gas mixtures |
abstract | Acetylene is recovered from gas mixtures obtained by the conversion of hydrocarbons, by absorbing the acetylene in a dialkyl sulphoxide containing not more than 8 carbon atoms in the liquid state and then cooling to crystallize the dialkyl sulphoxide. The absorption may be effected under pressure, e.g. 5 atmospheres. Preferred dialkyl sulphoxides are dimethyl and diethyl sulphoxides, which can be crystallized at about 12-13 DEG C. The same batch of absorbing liquid may be used repeatedly, preferably with occasional heating to expel accumulations of any relatively easily-soluble acetylene derivatives which may be present. |
