titleOfInvention | Improvements in plastic dispersions |
abstract | A coating composition comprises a resinous polymer of trifluorochloroethylene containing from 0 to 15 per cent of another monomer dispersed in a solution of a copolymer of trifluorochloroethylene and a hydrogen-containing halogenated olefin. The composition may also contain plasticizers such as dioctyl, phthalate, tricresyl phosphate or low molecular weight polymers of trifluorochloroethylene, fillers such as calcium silicate, calcium carbonate, carbon black or titanium dioxide, and pigments such as a phthalocyanine or chrome green. The other monomer may be vinyl chloride, vinylidene fluoride, tetrafluoroethylene, perfluoropropene or acrylonitrile. The hydrogen-containing monomer may be vinylidene fluoride, vinyl fluoride, vinylidene chloride, vinyl chloride or trifluoroethylene. Specified solvents are diisobutyl, methyl ethyl and methyl isobutyl ketones, cyclohexanone, acetone, methoxy ethanol, ethoxy ethanol, ethoxy ethoxy ethanol, methyl, butyl and amyl acetates, ethyl benzoate, dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydro-2-methyl furan, tetrahydropyran, dioxolane, 2-methyl-1,3 - dioxolane, alpha, alpha - dimethylethylene oxide, trimethylene oxide, 2,6-dimethyltetrahydropyran, 2,3-dimethyl-1,4-dioxane, 1-chloro-1-nitropropane and 1,1-dichloro-1-nitropropane. The solvent may be in part replaced with an inert diluent such as xylene, toluene, or benzene, naphthas or petroleum distillates, aliphatic alcohols having two or more carbon atoms in the molecule, dibutyl ether, or a mixture of alcohol and water. The compositions may be coated on to fabrics and paper (see Group IV (a)) and the coating dried and fused at temperatures between 250 DEG and 270 DEG C. |
