titleOfInvention Improved process for the preparation of sodium chloride
abstract Sodium chloride of high bulk density is prepared by the evaporation of brine containing compounds supplying nitrilotriacetate ions, preferably in a quantity between 1 and 100 mg. per litre. Dimethylglyoxim, preferably in a quantity between a 1/2 mg. and 50 mg. per litre may also be added to the solution. The crystallization may be effected by direct evaporation in a boiling zone or alternatively by preparing a supersaturated brine by evaporation and passing such a solution to a crystallizer with a movable bed where the crystals are withdrawn and the brine is returned for supersaturation. According to an example, nitrilotriacetic acid (20 mg. per litre) was added to brine and crystallization effected in the boiling zone of the evaporator. A further example relates to sodium nitrilotriacetate being added in a quantity of 30 mg. per litre with or without 5 mg. per litre of dimethylglyoxim. Specification 617,137 is referred to.
