titleOfInvention Ethyl thiolpropionate
abstract Ethyl thiolpropionate is prepared by the reaction of a propionyl halide with ethyl mercaptan, preferably in the presence of an acid-binding agent such as pyridine. The product is used in pharmaceutical compositions. In examples, ethyl thiolpropionate is made by the reaction of propionyl chloride with ethyl mercaptan (1) in the presence of pyridine, and (2) in the absence of any acid-binding agent.ALSO:Solid and semi-solid pharmaceutical compositions suitable for the treatment of tuberculosis comprise ethyl thiolpropionate plus a pharmaceutical excipient. The compound may be used for example in the form of tablets, pills, capsules and in other pharmaceutical forms. In an example a composition for intra muscular administration is described comprising ethyl thiolpropionate in arachis oil.
