titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to luminescent materials |
abstract | 786,631. Luminescent materials. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. May 7, 1954 [Feb. 13, 1953], No. 4101/53. Class 39(1). A luminescent material emitting U.V. light for use in mercury discharge tubes, X-ray intensifying apparatus or image converter tubes, comprises barium pyrophosphate activated by 10-5-10 per cent by weight of one or more of lead, tin, thallium, cerium, thorium, silver and zirconium. The material is prepared by firing, preferabey in a high pressure furnace, for one hour or more, air or an inert or reducing atmosphere such as nitrogen or hydrogen, at a temperature between 900‹C. and 1150‹C., a mixture of the pyrophosphate and the activator or activators which can be in the form of a salt or salts such as lead pyrophosphate or lead chloride. Excess of the activating salt or salts may be provided to compensate for volatilization during firing. The mixture can contain a flux or fluxes such as sodium fluoride and/or ammonium fluoride. The firing may be preceded by one or more stages of pre-firing at a lower temperature. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 701,266 and 746,271. |
