titleOfInvention Bleaching compositions, their preparation and use
abstract A bleaching composition in particulate form comprises a 1,3-dichloro-dialkyl-hydantoin and at least 10 per cent, by weight of the total composition, of a material selected from a phosphate salt having less molecularly bound water than an orthophosphate, an alkali metal silicate or an alkali metal carbonate. The phosphate may be a pyrophosphate, metaphosphate, tripolyphosphate or tetraphosphate of sodium in anhydrous or hydrated form. The substituted hydantoin may be 1,3-dichloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin; 1,3 - dichloro - 5 - methyl - 5 - iso - butylhydantoin; 1,3 - dichloro - 5 - methyl - 5 - ethylhydantoin; 1,3 - dichloro - 5,5 - di - isobutylhydantoin or 1,3 - dichloro - 5 - methyl-5-n-amylhydantoin. The composition may also include a refined mineral oil, to prevent dusting, and one or more other optional ingredients, of which sodium toluene sulphonate, sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, a mixture of monobutyl and dibutyl-naphthalene sulphonates, sodium isopropyl-naphthalene sulphonate, sodium monoglyceride sulphate of coconut oil fatty acids, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium chloride, sodium sulphate, a fluorescent compound having the formula <FORM:0784452/IV (b)/1> and blue pigments are specified. In one example, the composition includes both tetrasodium pyrophosphate and sodium carbonate and in another example sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium carbonate and sodium silicate are all included in the composition. The composition may be used in aqueous solution for bleaching cotton, linen or synthetic fibres.ALSO:A detergent and bleaching composition in particulate form comprises a 1,3-dichlorodialkyl-hydantoin and at least 10 per cent, by weight of the total composition, of a material selected from: a phosphate salt having less molecularly bound water than an orthophosphate, an alkali metal silicate or an alkali metal carbonate. The phosphate may be a pyrophosphate, metaphosphate, tripolyphosphate or tetraphosphate of sodium in anhydrous or hydrated form. The substituted hydantoin may be 1,3-dichloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin; 1,3 - dichloro - 5 - methyl - 5 - isobutylhydantoin; 1,3 - dichloro - 5 - methyl - 5 - ethylhydantoin; 1,3 - dichloro - 5,5 - di - isobutylhydantoin or 1,3-dichloro-5-methyl-5-n-amylhydantoin. The composition may also include a refined mineral oil, to prevent dusting, and one or more other optional ingredients, of which sodium toluene sulphonate, sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, a mixture of monobutyl and dibutyl-naphthalene sulphonates, sodium isopropyl - naphthalene sulphonate, sodium monoglyceride sulphate of coconut oil fatty acids, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium chloride, sodium sulphate, a fluorescent compound having the formula <FORM:0784452/III/1> and blue pigments are specified. In one example the composition includes both tetrasodium pyrophosphate and sodium carbonate, and in another example sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium carbonate and sodium silicate are all included in the composition.
