titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the stabilisation of soap
abstract Soap compositions, which may be in powder, flake, granular, or tablet form, contain, as a stabilizer, a small amount of a hydrazide of general formula Ar-X-NH-NH2, where Ar is an aromatic nucleus which may be substituted, and X is -CO-, or, more preferably, -SO2-. Ar is most desirably a benzene nucleus which may be substituted with groups such as methyl, methoxy, chloro, amino, and hydroxyl. The hydrazide, which may be present in amounts up to 5 per cent by weight of the soap, preferably 0.1-1.0 per cent, may be added either before saponification to the fat from which the soap is made, or to the soap itself at the crutching or milling stage. Preferred hydrazides are benzoic hydrazide, p-toluenesulphonic hydrazide, salicylic hydrazide, and anthranilic hydrazide.
