abstract | The invention comprises 3-acyloxy-5 : 6-dichloro - 17 : 20 - epoxy - 20 - acyloxypregnanes of the general formula <FORM:0781424/IV (a)/1> (wherein R represents an acyl radical and R1 the radical of an aliphatic acid having not more than 6 carbon atoms in the molecule), and the preparation thereof by oxidizing, with an organic peroxy acid, the corresponding D 17 (20)-3-acyloxy - 5 : 6 - dichloro - 20 acyloxypregnenes, which in turn may be prepared by the process of Specification 781,422. In examples, D 17 (20) - 3 : 20 - diacetoxy - 5 : 6 - dichloropregnene is oxidized to 3 : 20-diacetoxy-5 : 6-dichloro-17 : 20-epoxypregnane by means of (1) perbenzoic acid in benzene, and (2) monoperphthalic acid in ethyl acetate. Other peroxy acids specified are performic and peracetic. Specification 781,423 also is referred to. |
