titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the manufacture of fluorine by the electrolysis of fused salts
abstract Hydrogen fluoride present as an impurity in fluorine produced by electrolysis of a molten mixture of potassium fluoride and hydrogen fluoride is removed by scrubbing the contaminated fluorine with a molten mixture of potassium and hydrogen fluorides which is of such a hydrogen fluoride content and at such a temperature that the partial pressure of hydrogen fluoride over the scrubbing mixture is less than in the contaminated fluorine. The scrubbing mixture is then either used directly to return hydrogen fluoride to the cell or it is heated to boil off the absorbed hydrogen fluoride which is returned to the cell.
