titleOfInvention Manufacture and use of new amine condensation products
abstract The invention comprises (1) the preparation of products containing at least one amino group and at least two amide groups, wherein one molecular proportion of a polyalkylene polyamine containing at least three amino groups is reacted with at least two molecular proportions of a non-aromatic monocarboxylic acid containing a hydrocarbon radical of 8 to 40 carbon atoms, or a functional derivative of such acid, and with at least one molecular proportion of acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, acrylamide or methacrylamide (which may contain substituents), or of a corresponding b -halogenpropionic acid derivative; and (2) water-soluble acid-addition and quaternary ammonium salts of the compounds prepared as in (1). The high molecular carboxylic acid and acrylic or b -halogen-propionic derivatives may be combined with the polyamine in either order. Specified polyamines are diethylene triamine, dipropylene triamine, triethylene tetramine and tetraethylene pentamine. Specified high molecular carboxylic acids are caprylic, lauric, palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids; coconut oil fatty acids; hardened train oil fatty acids; resin acids (e.g. abeitic acid) and naphthenic acids. Functional derivatives of such acids include halides, esters and anhydrides. Acid-addition and quaternary salts are preferably derived from hydrochloric, sulphuric, methylsulphuric, acetic, lactic and formic acids, and from benzyl chloride, chloracetamide and dimethyl sulphate, respectively. In the examples acrylonitrile, diethylene triamine and stearic, oleic or coconut oil fatty acid are reacted in the ratio 1:1:2 and the products combined with acetic acid, benzyl chloride, chloracetamide or dimethyl sulphate; acrylamide, diethylene triamine and stearic acid are reacted in the ratio 1:1:2 and the product combined with acetic acid or benzyl chloride; acrylonitrile, triethylene tetramine and stearic acid are reacted in the ratio 2:1:2 and the product combined with acetic acid, benzyl chloride or chloracetamide; triethylene tetramine is reacted successively with acrylonitrile and stearic acid in the ratio 1:2:3, causing half the combined acrylonitrile to be liberated, and the product is combined with benzyl chloride or chloracetamide; b -chloropropionitrile, diethylene triamine and stearic acid are reacted in the ratio 1:1:2 to give a hydrochloride salt directly; and methacrylonitrile, diethylene triamine and stearic acid are reacted in the ratio 1:1:2 and the product combined with acetic acid. Specification 437,104, [Group IV], is referred to.ALSO:A soft feel is imparted to cotton, linen, acetate rayon, viscose rayon, cuprammonium rayon, polyester fibres (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) polyacrylonitrile and polyamide fibres by impregnating them at ordinary or slightly raised temperature with an aqueous solution of an acid - addition or quaternary ammonium salt of a compound containing at least one amino group and at least two amide groups, which compound is obtainable by reacting one molecular proportion of a polyalkylene polyamine containing at least three amino groups with at least two molecular proportions of a non-aromatic monocarboxylic acid containing a hydrocarbon radical of 8 to 40 carbon atoms, or a functional derivative of such acid, and with at least one molecular proportion of acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, acrylamide or methacrylamide (which may contain substituents) or of a corresponding b - halogen propionic acid derivative. Specified polyamines are diethylene triamine, dipropylene triamine, triethylene tetramine and tetraethylene pentamine. Specified high molecular carboxylic acids are caprylic, lauric, palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids; coconut oil fatty acids; hardened train oil fatty acids, resin acids (e.g. abietic acids) and naphthenic acids. Acidaddition and quaternary salts are preferably derived from hydrochloric, sulphuric, methyl-sulphuric, acetic, lactic and formic acids, and from benzyl chloride, chloracetamide and dimethyl sulphate, respectively. In examples viscose rayon and polyacrylonitrile fibres are treated at 20-40 DEG C. at a liquor ratio of 1 : 30 with a 0.1 to 1 per cent aqueous solution of products formed as follows: acrylonitrile, diethylene triamine and stearic, oleic or coconut oil fatty acid are reacted in the ratio 1 : 1 : 2 and the products combined with acetic acid, benzyl chloride, chloracetamide or dimethyl sulphate; acrylamide, diethylene triamine and stearic acid are reacted in the ratio 1 : 1 : 2 and the product combined with acetic acid or benzyl chloride; acrylonitrile, triethylene tetramine and stearic acid are reacted in the ratio of 2 : 1 : 2 and the product combined with acetic acid, benzyl chloride or chloracetamide; b - chlorophrpionitrile, diethylene triamine and stearic acid are reacted in the ration 1 : 1 : 2 to give a hydrochloride salt directly; and methacrylonitrile, diethylene triamine and stearic acid are reacted in the ratio 1 : 1 : 2 and the product combined with acetic acid. Specification 437,104 [Group IV] is referred to.
