titleOfInvention Cation exchangers
abstract Cation exchange resins containing selenonic acid groups are prepared by heating with selenic acid a cross-linked high molecular weight organic compound containing benzene nuclei which are capable of sulphonation, e.g. styrenedivinylbenzene copolymers, phenol-formaldehyde resins or condensation products of alkylene dichlorides with aromatic hydrocarbons in the presence of Friedel-Crafts catalysts. The selenic acid may be diluted with concentrated sulphuric acid or used in the presence of copper or silver selenate. In Examples (7) and (8) molybdenum ions are absorbed from solution by treating an exchanger with a solution of molybdenum in a mixture of sulphuric and nitric acids, and the exchanger regenerated with ammonium hydroxide solution. Specifications 474,361, 489,437, 577,707, [all in Group IV], 714,367 and 717,276 are referred to.
