titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the stabilization of hydrazine or aqueous solutions thereof |
abstract | Hydrazine or an aqueous solution of hydrazine is stabilized and autoxidation is retarded by dissolving therein tetramethyl thioram monosulphide, tetramethyl thiouram disulphide, 2, 2 dibenzothiazyl sulphide, or mixtures thereof. 0.001-0.01 molar concentration of the sulphide is sufficient, and the sulphide retards dissolution by hydrazine or hydrazine solutions of metal, e.g. copper, in contact therewith, or prevents acceleration of decomposition of hydrazine by copper or chloride or other halide ions already present. In examples, 0.001 mole of each of the specified sulphides is dissolved in 100 grms. of 54.4 per cent aqueous hydrazine containing 0.0005 mole sodium chloride and the resulting solutions are stable and do not dissolve measurable quantities of copper. |
