titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to novel epoxides of diels-alder adducts
abstract The invention comprises epoxides of the Diels-Alder adducts of a hexachloro-bicycloheptadiene and derivatives of furan which have in 2 - position the groups -CH2OCOCH3, -CH2OH, -CH2OCH3 or -CH(OCOCH3)2, and a method of preparing them by the oxidation of the said adducts with organic peracids, such as perbenzoic, peracetic and mono-perphthalic acid. An example of the oxidation of the adduct 1 : 2 : 3 : 4 : 10 : 10-hexachloro-1 : 4-methano - 5 - acetoxymethyl - 5 : 8 - oxa-1 : 4 : 4a : 5 : 8 : 8a - hexahydronaphthalene, to give the corresponding 6 : 7-epoxy compound, is given. Derivatives having the remaining groups specified above in 5-position of the adduct when formed, and the 6 : 7 epoxy group, are obtained similarly from the corresponding furan adducts.ALSO:Compositions of the epoxides of the Diels-Alder adducts of a hexachlorobicycloheptadiene and a furan compound (see Group IV(b)) with dusts, solvents, aqueous dispersions and other carriers are used as insecticides. They are capable of forming heavy metal complexes imparting additional fungicidal properties.
