titleOfInvention | Titanium ester complexes |
abstract | Synthetic resin and like film-forming compositions containing organic titanic esters are stabilized against premature curing by using the esters in the form of their complexes with amines of the formula <FORM:0765603/IV(a)/1> where R is hydrogen, hydroxyl, methyl or ethyl, R1 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, R11 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or aminoalkyl or hydroxyalkyl of up to 6 carbon atoms, and x is 0 or 1. The amine should be present in amount to provide 2-8 amino groups for each titanium atom. Examples show the following compositions: (1) epoxy resin Epon 1007, diacetone alcohol, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, tetrabutyl titanate, ethylene diamine and isobutanol; (2) resin solution of (1), tetra-ethoxyethyl titanate, propylene diamine and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether; (3) resin solution of (1), tetrabutyl titanate and 1 : 3-diaminopropan-2-ol; (4) linseed oil alkyd resin, tetra-n-amyl titanate and ethylene diamine; (5) p-phenyl-phenol-formaldehyde resin BR-254, linseed oil, xylene, lead drier, cobalt drier, tetraphenyl titanate, and diethylene triamine; (6) ethyl cellulose, xylene, butanol, tetrabutyl titanate and diethylene triamine. The products are spread on to steel panels and baked to give clear films.ALSO:The invention comprises complexes of organic titanic esters with amines of the formula: <FORM:0765603/IV(b)/1> where R is hydrogen, hydroxyl, methyl or ethyl, R1 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, R11 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or aminoalkyl or hydroxyalkyl of up to 6 carbon atoms, and x is 0 or 1. The titanic esters may be C1-C8 alkyl titanates, aryl titanates, aralkyl titanates, cycloalkyl titanates and condensed alkyl titanates. The amine should be present in amount to provide 2-8 amino groups for each titanium atom. Examples show the complexes prepared by mixing tetrabutyl titanate with ethylene diamine, diethylene tetramine or 1 : 3-diaminopropan - 2 - ol, tetra - n - amyl titanate with ethylene diamine, tetra-ethoxyethyl titanate with propylene diamine, and tetraphenyl titanate with diethylene triamine. b -aminoethyl-ethanolamine and analogous polyethylene amines may also be used. The products are curing agents for synthetic resins (see Group IV (a)).ALSO:Varnishes containing organic titanic esters and synthetic resin or like film-forming agents are stabilized against premature curing by using the esters in the form of their complexes with amines of the formula <FORM:0765603/III/1> where R is hydrogen, hydroxyl, methyl or ethyl, R1 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, R11 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or aminoalkyl or hydroxyalkyl of up to 6 carbon atoms, and X is 0 or 1. The amine should be present in amount to provide 2-8 amino groups for each titanium atom. Examples show varnishes prepared from the following components:-(1) epoxy resin Epon 1007, diacetone alcohol, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, tetrabutyl titanate, ethylene diamine and isobutanol; (2) resin solution of (1), tetra-ethoxyethyl titanate, propylene diamine and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether; (3) resin solution of (1), tetrabutyl titanate and 1:3-diaminopropan-2-ol; (4) linseed oil alkyd resin, tetra-n-amyl titanate and ethylene diamine; (5) p - phenyl - phenol - formaldehyde resin BR-254, linseed oil, xylene, lead drier, cobalt drier, tetraphenyl titanate and diethylene triamine; (6) ethyl cellulose, xylene, butanol, tetrabutyl titanate and diethylene triamine. The products are spread on to steel panels and baked to give clear films. |
