titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to separating fat from batches of free fat containing portions
abstract Fat is separated from batches of free fat-containing portions obtained by the method of Specification 748,814 by conditioning the free fat-containing portions, after their release by the high frequency vibrations, to a temperature immediately below the coagulating point of the protein matter but sufficiently high to maintain the free fat in the molten state, passing the free fat-containing portions through screen to separate the major part of the solid material, and then centrifuging the remaining fat-containing portions to separate the free fat from blood, soluble albumins &c. The free fat-containing portions are preferably conditioned by the addition of warm water thereto which is removed in the centrifuging step. The proportion of water is preferably 50 per cent or more of the fatty portions and its temperature may be 55 to 65 DEG C., the resulting temperature being below 50 DEG C. The liquid fat from the centrifuging may be re-refined by heating to 70-80 DEG C. to facilitate the separation of remaining water and other impurities by a final centrifugation. The conditioning step may also be effected by controlled heating.
