abstract | The dihydrostreptomycin salt of pyruvic acid isonicotinyl hydrazone of formula <FORM:0763937/IV(b)/1> is produced by reacting isonicotinic acid hydrazide with pyruvic acid in an anhydrous aliphatic carboxylic acid containing one to eight carbon atoms inclusive, e.g. glacial acetic acid, adding the precipitated product to a solution of dihydrostreptomycin in an anhydrous aliphatic alcohol containing one to eight carbon atoms, e.g. methyl alcohol, and precipitating from the resulting solution the dihydrostreptomycin salt of pyruvic acid isonicotinyl hydrazone by dilution with ethyl ether.
