titleOfInvention | Improved spinnable polyvinyl chloride compositions |
abstract | The invention comprises solutions of polyvinyl chloride in N-methyl-tetrahydro-furfurylamine and the production of filaments by spinning such solutions into an aqueous solution of N-methyl-tetrahydrofurfurylamine. The solutions are obtained by adding the polymer to the amine, heating to 45 DEG C. for one hour and allowing to stand at 18 DEG C. until the viscosity has risen to the desired value. Preferred solutions contain 8-14 per cent of polymer. The coagulation bath becomse richer in amine during the spinning and its composition must be adjusted to prevent the concentration exceeding 75 per cent. The preferred value is 20 per cent at 18 DEG C., but spinning may be carried out at any temperature between 1 DEG and 80 DEG C.ALSO:N - Methyl - tetrahydrofurfurylamine is prepared by the catalytic hydrogenation of the Schiff's base obtained from tetrahydrofurfuryl-amine and formaldehyde. The preparation and hydrogenation of the Schiff's base may be carried out in water, in methanol, or in the absence of a solvent. Suitable conditions using Raney nickel are 60-80 DEG C. and 60-120 atmospheres. |
