titleOfInvention Novel haemostatic compositions
abstract A haemostatic composition comprises at least six parts by weight of a non-toxic water-soluble salt e.g. potassium, sodium or ammonium salt, of 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid, and one part by weight of adrenochrome mono-oxime, adrenochrome mono-semicarbazone or adrenochrome isonicotinic acid hydrazone. An aqueous solution suitable for injection is prepared by dissolving in the solution of the salt of 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid having a concentration of at least one per cent by weight, at least one milligram per cc. of adrenochrome derivative. Up to two per cent by weight of benzyl alcohol may also be incorporated in the injectable solution. The solution may be evaporated to dryness e.g. by vacuum distillation at temperatures below 50 DEG to 60 DEG C., lypophilization or rapid spray drying, to yield a dry preparation which may be mixed with milk, sugar or starch and tabletted. Specification 757,137 is referred to.
