titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to resin/rubber compositions |
abstract | A composition comprises a rubbery copolymer of a conjugated diene and an unsaturated organic nitrile, and a resin derived from sulphur dioxide and two different unsaturated organic compounds one of which, used in minor amount, is acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, methyl, ethyl or butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate or vinyl acetate. The rubber may be derived from butadiene, isoprene, piperylene, methylpentadiene, chloropene or 2,3-dimethyl butadiene and acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile. The other monomer used in the production of the sulphur dioxide resin may be 1- or 2-butene, isobutylene, pentenes, octenes, cyclohexene, methylcyclohexene, 4-cyclohexene-1-butene, styrene, a -methyl styrene, acetylene, methylacetylene, butadiene, isoprene, pentadiene, hexadienes, allyl or undecylenyl alcohol, allylacetic or undecylenic acid, allyl or vinyl chloride, vinyl bromide or acetate, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, methyl, ethyl or butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate or undecylenate, allyl ethyl ether, o-allylanisole, o-allyl phenol or p-bromoallylbenzene. Optional ingredients are plasticizers and stabilizers such as metal alkyl dithiophosphates (e.g. zinc dilauryl and dicetyl dithiophosphates), tin, tin oxide, hydroxide or salt, organic sulphides, amides, imides, esters of tetrathiophosphoric and trithiophosphorous acids, vinylcyclohexene-hydrogen sulphide reaction products, naphthalenethiols, benzimidazolethiols, derivatives of thiophosphoric acid, organic phosphoric acid derivatives, sulphonamides and nitriles. The composition may be obtained by milling or by blending separate latices which are then co-precipitated, e.g. with methanol and sodium chloride. The moulded products have improved physical properties and Example 2 describes a moulded radio knob also containing titanium dioxide and cadmium red. |
