titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to thermally stable bituminous bonding compositions |
abstract | Amides of the formula RCO-NR1ANR211 and their carboxylic salts RCO.NR1ANR211 HO.OCR are prepared by reaction between organic acids and dialkyl aminoalkyl amines at 100-200 DEG C. In the formul\n9 RCO is an acyl group derived from C12-20 fatty acid or a rosin acid, A a C2-6 alkylene group, R1 is H or C1-4 alkyl, and R11 is C1-4 alkyl and each R11 may be the same or different. Specified acids, singly or in admixture, are oleic, linoleic, linolenic, lauric, palmitic, stearic, rosin acids, abietic acid or the mixed acids of tall oil. Triglycerides may be the source of the fatty acids. Specified amines are dimethylaminoethylmethylamine, diethyl and dimethylaminoethylamines, 3-dimethylaminopropylamine, 4-dibutylaminobutylbutylamine, methyl isopropyl aminoethyl methylamine, and 3-di-isopropyl aminopropylamine. Specifications 618,767 and 755,918 are referred to.ALSO:Bituminous compositions contain a N-di alkylaminoalkylamide R CO NR1 - A - NR211 or its carboxylic salt R CO NR1 - A - NR211HO.OCR where R CO is C12-20 fatty acid or resin acid acyl group; A an alkylene C2-6 group; R1 is hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl radicle and R11 is a C1-4 alkyl radicle, which may be the same or different. The preferred proportion is 0.1 to 2 per cent, relative to the bituminous material. Referred compounds are N dimethylaminopropyl oleamide or its resin acid salt, and N dimethylaminoethyl oleamide. The RCO acyl group may be derived from tall oil. The preparation of the compounds is described in Specification 755,918. In the case of the salts the RCO may be derived from the same or different acids. The compositions are used for coating aggregates, e.g. gravel or slag. Specification 618,767 also is referred to. |
