titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the manufacture of thiocarbohydrazide
abstract Thiocarbohydrazide is made by refluxing a solution of hydrazinium dithiocarbazinate in the presence of hydrazine. The dithiocarbazinate can be made in situ from carbon disulphide and hydrazine and the whole process can thus be carried out in one step by using at least three mols. of hydrazine per mol. of carbon disulphide. The reaction takes 1-2 hours in water at 95 DEG C. and the product crystallizes out on cooling. The yield can be improved by intermittent heating and cooling of the mixture, the separated product being removed after each cooling. Experimental details are given.
