titleOfInvention | Plasticized gelatin capsules |
abstract | In a plasticized gelatin capsule containing a water-soluble substance which normally attacks gelatin, the said substance is used in admixture with a water-soluble hygroscopic liquid vehicle containing 6-40 units of ethylene oxide per molecule, e.g. polyethylene glycols of mol. wt. 300-900, polyethylene glycol monolaurate or monooleates, polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monooleate; a weight ratio of 1-7 : 1 is suitable. Water may be added to the organic liquid. Water soluble substances encapsulated are, for example, chloral hydrate, choline chloride, sodium and potassium chloride and sulphate, ethanol, isopropanol, pentynols, betaine hydrochloride, methyl ethyl ketone, alkyl acetates of 2-4 carbon atoms. A gelatin-glycerine-water mixture is employed for forming the capsules, a method of capsulating being described. Specification 715,879 is referred to. |
