titleOfInvention | New derivatives of alkaloids |
abstract | The invention comprises alkaloid esters of the formula <FORM:0751994/IV(a)/1> where A is the residue of an alkaloid A(OH)n, n is 1 or 2, x is 0 or 1 and R is a straight chain aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of 7 or more carbon atoms; also salts of the esters; the ester groups are attached to cyclic carbon atoms. The esters are made by reacting the alkaloids with fatty acids or their derivatives such as halides, anhydrides or esters, preferably by refluxing in an anhydrous organic solvent. Examples show the production of morphine dimyristic ester and its hydrochloride, morphine 6-myristic ester 3-benzyl ether and hydrochloride, boldine di-myristic ester, morphine 3-myristic ester and hydrochloride and codeine myristic ester and hydrochloride. Other products mentioned are the capric, lauric, stearic, behenic, pelargonic and oleic esters of codeine, and their hydrochlorides. |
