titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to dissolving exposed surfaces of nickel
abstract An exposed surface of nickel is dissolved by means of an aqueous solution containing, per litre, at least 2,5 grams of cyanide radical from a water-soluble alkali cyanide and at least 0,15 grams of nitrobenzo-grouping of a nitro-substituted aromatic compound capable of producing an electromotive force of at least -0,9 volts between a sheet nickel electrode and a saturated potassium chloride calomel electrode, in the absence of a substantial flow of electric current between said surface and said electrode. The solution may be neutralised with caustic soda, the cyanide may be an alkali metal, alkaline earth or ammonium cyanide and the aromatic compound may be a nitrobenzoic acid, nitroaniline, nitrophenol, nitroresorcinol, nitrobenzene sulphonic acid, nitrobenzaldehyde, nitrotoluene or nitrochlorobenzene. A temperature of 70 DEG -95 DEG C. is employed and the solution should be initially substantially free from nickel, silver, gold, copper, cadmium and zinc.
