titleOfInvention | Improvements relating to monoazo dyestuffs and their use |
abstract | The invention comprises dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0739934/IV (c)/1> where A is a benzene or naphthalene residue which may contain non-salt forming substituents or their alkali metal or ammonium salts. The dyestuffs may be made by the acid, preferably mineral acid, coupling of 2-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid with the appropriate diazotized 2-aminobenzene-1-sulphonic acid aryl ester. Non-salt forming groups which may be present are halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, aralkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, annulated alkylene, acylamino, alkyl and aryl sulphonyl groups. The 2-aminobenzene-1-sulphonic acid ester of phenol and its alkyl homologues are preferred diazo components. Diazotization of the sulphonic acid esters may be effected in the presence of solubility promoters such as low alcohols, fatty acids or amides. Examples illustrate the preparation of dyestuffs using the following diazo components: (1) 2 - aminobenzene - 1 - sulphonic acid phenyl, 21-, 31- and 41-methyl phenyl, and 31,41- and 21,41-dimethyl phenyl esters; (2) 2-aminobenzene - 1 - sulphonic acid - 41 - tert. - amyl -, -tert.-butyl-, -cyclohexyl-, -tetramethylene and -di-isobutyl-phenyl ester; and (3) 2-aminobenzene-1-sulphonic acid-21-, -31- and -41-chloro-, and -41-methyl- and -ethyl-sulphonylphenyl ester. The dyestuffs dye polypeptide, e.g. wool, fibres from an acid bath in bluish-red tints. p |
