titleOfInvention | Polyhydronaphthalene compounds |
abstract | The invention comprises 5-methyl-6-alkoxy-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a - octahydronaphthalene - 1,4-diones of the formula <FORM:0736302/IV (b)/1> wherein RO represents the alkoxy radical, and a process for the preparation thereof by reacting a 5-methyl-6-alkoxy-1,4,4a,5,8,8a-hexahydronaphthalene-1,4-dione with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, e.g. Raney nickel, platinum oxide or palladium. The reaction is preferably carried out in an inert organic solvent such as ether, dioxane or benzene. The alkoxy group preferably contains not more than 5 carbon atoms. In the example 5-methyl-6-ethoxy-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene-1,4-dione is prepared. The corresponding 6-methoxy- and 6-propoxy compounds are also referred to. Specifications 736,348 and 736,349 are referred to. |
