titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to methods for preventing the corrosion of cooling radiators using a water circulation |
abstract | 736,215. Preventing corrosion. SOC. ANON. DES USINES CHAUSSON. July 25, 1951, No. 17692/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 123 (1). A method of preventing the corrosion of cooling radiators, using water comprises placing in the water a corrosion inhibition product in the form of a solid or pulverulent compound of relatively low solubility, the amount being sufficient to saturate a multiple of the quantity of water in the system. The inhibitor compound may be in the form of a glass, either block or powdered, by combining, e.g. by sintering, a soda component (inhibitor) with a silicon component. The term "soda" includes the carbonate, bicarbonate, or hydroxide of sodium. The glass may support a more soluble inhibitor salt, e.g., a chromate, silicate or phosphate, e.g. zinc, lead, strontium, calcium or sodium chromate. Alternatively the inhibitor compound may be a soluble salt sintered with a low solubility salt which is not a corrosion inhibitor. In any case the inhibitor compound may be placed in a compartment communicating with the water system, or in a pervious strainer or bag, or it may be in the form of a plug which screws into a radiator header. Low solubility salts which are mentioned as corrosion inhibitors are strontium fluoride, borate, chromate, molybdate, and tungstate, barium silicate and fluoride, calcium borate and tungstate, sodium fluosilicate, and magnesium phosphate. |
