titleOfInvention Rodenticidal preparations and process for making them
abstract A pulverulent rodenticidal preparation comprises a systematically toxic agent active through the gastro-intestinal tract of rodents, and a water-repellent and water-insoluble adhering agent in the form of a coating on the particles of the toxic agent, said toxic agent and coating being non-repellent to rodents and the said preparation being adapted to be dusted or scattered on runs and holes frequented by rodents and being capable of adhering to surfaces on which it is dusted or scattered and to the fur or footpads of rodents. The toxic agent may be, for example, phenyl-thiourea, naphthylthiourea, chlorophenyl-diazo-thiourea, 3-a -acetonyl - benzyl - 4 - hydroxy coumarin, chlorodimethylamino - methylpyridine, sodium fluoracetate or tetramethylene-disulphotetramine. Suitable water-repellent adhering substances are coumarone resins, colophony resins, amber copal, benzoic benzoine resins, dammar, elemi, mastic, phenol-aldehyde resins, alkyd resins, polyamide resins, polyvinyl resins and salts of the following acids: oleic acid, pelargonic acid, fatty acids from sunflower oil and poppy seed oil and the artificial fatty acids obtained by the oxidation of paraffin hydrocarbons. Suitable fillers to increase the bulk may consist of steatite, talcum, kaolin, powdered soapstone, french chalk or the like. The toxic agent, together with the diluent when used, may be impregnated with a solution of the resinous substance and a suitable solvent, e.g. acetone or benze, and the solvent evaporated. According to another method a mixture of the toxic agent and filler may be impregnated with a fatty acid which is then saponified, or the filler may be separately treated and then added to the toxic agent. Specification 638,303 is referred to.
