titleOfInvention Improvements in anti-perspirant compositions
abstract A perspiration-inhibiting preparation comprises the combination in an aqueous carrier, e.g. the aqueous phase of a cream in which an oily phase is held in dispersion by an emulsifier, of at least one relatively water-soluble zirconium salt of an organic acid, e.g. sodium zirconium lactate, sodium zirconium glycolate or sodium zirconium gluconate and at least one relatively insoluble zirconium salt of an organic acid, e.g. zirconium lactate, zirconium glycolate or zirconium gluconate. The preparation which preferably has a pH of about 2.5 to 5.5, may be prepared as solutions, e.g. water solutions, emulsions, lotions or incorporated into cream phases which generally comprise an oily phase including natural and synthetic oils, waxes, fats including spermaceti, paraffin, mineral oils, sterols, vegetable oils and other esters of fatty acids of 10-18 carbon atoms, held in dispersion by suitable emulsifiers, e.g. partial esters of fatty acids of 8-10 carbon atoms with glycerine, glycol or other polyhydric alcohols and their polyoxyethylene ethers, including stabilizers such as sodium salts of sulphated monoglycerides of cocoanut oil fatty acids, sodium alkyl sulphates, salts of alkyl aromatic sulphonates, specified emulsifiers suitable for use in the cream base being sodium N-methyloleyl taurate (obtainable under the Registered Trade Mark "Igepon T") sorbitan monolaurate, monopalmitate, and monostearate polyoxyethylene derivatives (obtainable under the Registered Trade Marks "Tween 20" to "Tween 80"), alkylated aryl polyether alcohol (obtainable under the Registered Trade Mark "Triton X45"), and the triethanolamine salt of alkyl aryl sulphonate (obtainable under the Trade name "Ultrawet 60L"), in an aqueous phase which carries the combined zirconium salts, a humectant, e.g. glycerine, sorbitol, propylene glycol also preferably being present.
