titleOfInvention Improvements in arylethers of glycerol bis-chloralhemiacetal
abstract The invention comprises aryl ethers of glycerol-bis-chloralhemiacetal of the general formula <FORM:0734303/IV (b)/1> wherein X represents a halogen, hydrogen or an alkyl group, and the preparation thereof by reacting a compound of the general formula <FORM:0734303/IV (b)/2> wherein X has the above significance, with chloral in the presence of an anhydrous non-polar organic solvent, e.g. benzene or toluene. The preferred compounds are those in which X represents a methyl group or a chlorine atom. Chloral may be used in a slight excess for the above reaction. In the examples 1-phenoxy-2,3 - bis - (2,2,2 - trichloro - 1 - hydroxyethoxy)-propane and the corresponding o-methylphenoxy and p-chlorophenoxy compounds are prepared. a ,b - di - (b 1 - trichloro - a 1 - hydroxyethoxy)-g -hydroxy-propane is prepared by reacting glycerol and chloral. Aryl ethers of the general formula <FORM:0734303/IV (b)/3> wherein X represents a halogen, hydrogen or an alkyl group, are prepared by reacting the sodium salt of the required phenol with 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol.
