titleOfInvention A process for producing dyeings and prints resistant to plasticizers
abstract Textile materials of animal fibres or natural or regenerated cellulose or paper are dyed or printed and then coated or impregnated with a polyvinyl compound containing a plasticizer, there being used a water-insoluble dyestuff obtained by coupling a diazotized amine of the formula <FORM:0733160/IV (c)/1> with an arylide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid (or its 6 - alkoxy or 6 - halogen derivatives), 2-hydroxyanthracene - 3 - carboxylic acid, 2-hydroxycarbazole - 3 - carboxylic acid, 3-hydroxydiphenyleneoxide - 2 - carboxylic acid, 3 - hydroxydiphenylenesulphide - 2 - carboxylic acid or of 7 : 8 - benzcarbazole - 31 - hydroxy-21-carboxylic acid; in the formula R1 is hydrogen, alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or a hydroaromatic radical, the amide and NH2 groups are meta or para to one another and the nucleus a may be substituted by alkyl, alkoxy or halogen; both components are free from solubilizing groups. These dyestuffs are stated to be resistant to bleeding into the plasticizers. They may be applied by printing, padding or the ice colour method. The fabric treated may be wool, silk, jute, linen, cotton or viscose. In the examples (1) cotton goods are impregnated successively with an alkaline alcoholic solution of 2 : 3 - oxynaphthoic 2 : 5 - dimethoxy - 4-chloranilide containing formaldehyde and turkey red oil and with a solution of diazotized 3-amino - 4 - methylbenzanilide; (2) cotton is padded with an alkaline solution of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic-o-anisidide and printed with a paste containing diazotized 3-amino-4-chlorobenz-o-toluidide; (3) cotton or viscose is printed with a paste containing the dyestuff 3-amino-4-methoxybenzanilide --> 2 : 3 - oxynaphthoic anilide (see Specification 210,081), an emulsion of a copolymer of vinyl acetate and butyl acrylate, a water-soluble condensation product of urea formaldehyde and ethylene glycol, and ammonium thiocyanate; the print is dried at 110 DEG C.; (4) cotton or viscose is printed with a paste containing 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic 2 : 4-dimethoxy-5-chloranilide, the diazoamino compound from 3 - amino - 4-methoxybenzanilide and methyltaurine, caustic soda, turkey red oil and alcohol; the print is dried and acid-steamed to develop the colour. In each of the above examples there is subsequently applied a mixture of polyvinyl chloride and dioctyl phthalate, and the coating is set by passing through a tunnel at 170 DEG C. A list of further suitable dyestuffs is given.
