| abstract | The invention comprises tri-esters of 2-methyl - 3 - cyano - 4 : 5 : 6 - pyridinetricarboxylic acid and their preparation by reacting a tri-ester of a -keto-g -alkoxyaconitic acid with diacetonitrile. Preferably the esterifying groups are lower alkyl groups of not more than 4 carbon atoms. In an example a triethyl a -keto-g -ethoxyaconitate is treated with diacetonitrile to give triethyl 2-methyl-3-cyano-4 : 5 : 6-pyridinetricarboxylate. |
