titleOfInvention | Manufacture of para-substituted diphenyl-thioureas |
abstract | The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0731468/IV (b)/1> in which one of the substituents R and R1 represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical (e.g. an alkyl group) containing 3 to 5 carbon atoms or an aliphatic hydrocarbon-oxygen radical (e.g. an alkoxy group) containing 2 to 5 carbon atoms, and the other represents an amino group disubstituted by two alkyl groups each containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms or by a pentamethylene group, and wherein the substituents R and R1 contain together more than 4 carbon atoms. The compounds are prepared by reacting a para-R-aniline with a para-R1-phenyl isothiocyanate or a para-R1-aniline with a para-R-phenyl isothiocyanate preferably in a neutral solvent (e.g. ethanol, benzene, toluene or propanol). Alternatively thiophosgene is reacted with a para-R-aniline and the resulting product further reacted with a para-R1-aniline. The examples describe the preparation of 1-(paradimethylaminophenyl) - 3 - (para - propyl -, isopropyl-, propoxy-, butyl-, butoxy-, isobutoxy-, isopentyl-, and isopentyloxy-phenyl)-2-thiourea, 1 - (para - diethylaminophenyl) - 3 - (paraethoxy-, butoxy-, isobutoxy-, and isopentylphenyl) - 2 - thiourea, 1 - (para - dibutylaminophenyl)- and 1-(para-piperidylphenyl)-3-(paraphenetyl)-2-thiourea. Para-substituted phenyl isothiocyanates are prepared by adding para-substituted aniline in chloroform to an aqueous suspension of thiophosgene. Para-propoxy-, butoxy-, isobutoxy-, isopentyloxy-, propyl-, isopropyl-, butyl-, and isopentylphenyl isothiocyanate are described. |
