A delay element 2 for detonating fuze lines 1 comprises a delay composition 6 of red lead and silicon disposed in a case formed with a constriction as shown. Initiating charges 5 of lead azide are disposed on either side of the case 6 and are held in position by caps 3 having central apertures which are covered with foil 7.
