titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to an adhesive rodent repellent composition
abstract Seeds are protected from rodents by coating with a composition comprising an adhesive and from one to thirty per cent by weight of a zinc dithiocarbamate-amine complex addition compound dispersed therein. In an example melon seeds are coated with a diluted paste formed by adding 5 parts by weight of finely divided zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate-cyclohexylamine complex addition compound to 100 parts by weight of flour in water. U.S.A. Specification 2,321,301 is referred to.ALSO:An adhesive composition possessing rodent repellent properties comprises an adhesive and from 1 to 30 per cent by weight of a zinc dithiocarbamate-amine complex addition compound dispersed therein. Adhesives such as animal glues, gums, starches, casein and casein products, waxes, natural or synthetic resins, rubbers, asphalts and bitumens may be used. The preferred zinc dithiocarbamate-amine complex addition compounds are the zinc dialkyldithiocarbamate complex addition compounds with alkyl and alicyclic amines. According to the examples borax, aqueous ammonia, sugar, glycerine, boiled oil, linseed oil, chloral hydrate, toluol, benzol, thymol, may also be included. In one example an asphalt cement is prepared by heating 10 parts of asphalt and 2 parts of paraffin wax to which one part of boiled oil is added the mixture being thinned with hot toluol or benzol in which mixture 2 parts of zinc dimethyl-dithiocarbamate-cyclohexylamine complex addition compound are thoroughly dispersed. U.S.A. Specification 2,321,301 is referred to.ALSO:A rodent repelling composition comprises an adhesive and from 1 to 30 per cent. by weight of a zinc dithiocarbamate-amine complex addition compound dispersed therein. The adhesives which may be used are animal glues, gums, starches, casein and casein products, asphalts, waxes, natural or synthetic resins, or rubbers, and may be used dissolved in solvents, e.g. water, alcohol, hydrocarbons, ketones, ethers, and esters. The dithiocarbamates which may be used as starting reactants to produce the complex addition compounds are the zinc, sodium or potassium salts of the alkyl-, alkenyl-, alicyclic-, heterocyclic-, aryl-, aralkyl-substituted dithiocarbamic acids. The zinc salt or the water-soluble salts of methyl-; dimethyl-; ethyl-; diethyl-; di-n-butyl-; N-methyl-N-ethyl-; diamyl-; diallyl-; mono-, di- or N-ethyl-N-, cyclohexyl-; mono- or di-, benzyl-; phenethyl-; tetrahydrofurfuryl-; N-cyclopentamethylene-; N-methyl-N- (o-methyl cyclohexyl)-; N-methyl-N-tetrahydro-alpha furfuryl-; N-cyclo (ethylene-oxy-ethylene)-; 2-ethyl-butyl-; phenyl- and diphenyl-; biphenyl-, and alpha-naphthyl-dithiocarbamic acids may be used as well as those derived from carbon disulphide and amines such as symmetrical diethylethylene diamine, symmetrical dibutyl trimethylene diamine, the alkyl substituted piperidines, pyrrole, pyrroline, pyrrolidine, di(2-ethyl butyl) amine, di-(2-ethylhexyl) amine, dialklxyl propylamines, alkyl alkoxylamines. The amine portion may be any primary or secondary amine having an ionization constant greater than 1 x 10-7 such as mono- and di-methyl-, ethyl-, propyl- and butylamines; mixed alkyl amines e.g. mono- and di-allyl- and vinyl-amines; polyamines e.g. ethylene-, dibutylethylene-, dipropylethylene-, mono-o-tolylethylene-diamine; hexadecyl propyldiamine; diethylene triamine; diethyl trimethylene diamine; alicyclic amines e.g. mono- and di-cyclohexylamine, N-ethyl N-cyclohexyl amine, hexahydro o- or p-toluidine, and N-methylhexahydro o-toluidine; heterocyclic amines as piperidine, morpholine, mono-, di-, butyl-, ethyl-, methyl-tetrahydrofurfuryl amine, and pyrrolidine; and aralkyl amines such as mono-, di-, benzyl amine, phenethyl amine, and di-(beta-phenyl) ethylamine. The preferred zinc dithiocarbamate-amine complex addition compounds are the zinc dialkyldithiocarbamate complex addition compounds with alkyl and alicyclic amines. U.S.A. Specification 2,321,301 is referred to.
