titleOfInvention | New semicarbazones |
abstract | The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0727007/IV (b)/1> i.e., the monosemicarbazones of ortho-, iso-, and tere-phthalaldehydes. They are prepared by mixing equimolecular proportions of the aldehyde and semicarbazide which may be in the form of its salt, e.g. the hydrochloride, preferably in solution in ethanol or methanol. Sodium acetate may be added to the solution. The monosemicarbazone precipitates and the disemicarbazone contained therein is removed by boiling with aqueous ethanol in which the latter is insoluble. The production of the terephthalaldehyde derivative is described. |
