A travelling drilling apparatus comprises a trolley on which are arranged one or more arms, pivoting about a common axis and of variable length, each carrying at its outer end a pivotally mounted drill which may operate obliquely or parallel to the axis of the arm. As shown, a trolley 1, mounted on bogies 4, carries a shaft 9 on which are mounted, on bushes, 18, 17, arms 19, 20 longitudinally movable by rack and pinion gear in guides 26. The arms carry longitudinally movable beams 34, 35 having swinging heads 36 to which are secured frames 52 carrying drilling tools 64a, 64 which may be fed along the frames by a hand crank driving a screw spindle. The heads 36 to which the frames 52 are attached may be in the form of a pivot having a friction brake. A pillar 11 mounted on the trolley may carry a pneumatically operated piston which engages the roof of a tunnel by a wooden beam 15 carried in a shoe 14. A strut 16 also attached to the column may take part of the thrust. |
