titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to a silicon-containing condensation product
abstract A heat-hardenable synthetic material, suitable for electrical insulation and baking varnishes, is made by reacting one or more organic compounds containing at least two hydroxyl groups with an aromatic orthosilicic acid ester in amounts such that the reaction product still contains unreacted hydroxyl groups. The seaction may be effected in the presence of a solvent, and the products per se or solutions thereof are used for coating, e.g. wires, with rubsequent heat hardening. In examples, reactants specified are: hydroxy organic compounds (1, 2) castor oil, (3, 4) mono-ricinoleic acid-glycerine ester, (5) phthalic acid-hexane triol ester, (6, 7) alkyds derived from phthalic acid, ricinoleic acid and glycerine, (8) a polyester of adipic acid, butylene glycol and glycerine and a poly addition of hexanetriol and toluylene diisocyanate, (9) butylated urea-formaldehyde condensate, (10) a mixture of melamine-formaldehyde and p-tertiary p butyl phenol-formaldehyde condensates, (11) a polyester of adipic acid, butylene glycol and trimethylol propane, (12) polyvinyl acetal; a mixture of a fatty acid plasticized glycerolphthalate resin with (13) a p-tertiary butylphenol-formaldehyde condensate, or with (14) a butylated urea-formaldehyde condensate; (15) a mixture of a polyvinyl acetal acid a p-tertiary butyl phenol-formaldehyde condensate, and (16) a styrene treated phthalic acid-triol polyester plasticized with a styrenated drying oil: silicic acid esters-(1, 2, 3, 12) tetracresyl orthosilicate, (3, 6-10, 13-15), tetra diphenyl orthosilicate (i.e. tetra orthophenylphenoxysilane), and (5, 11, 16) tetraphenyl orthosilicate. Toluylene diisocyanate is included in the reaction mixtures of examples 2, 4 and 7. Solvents specified-amyl acetate, xylene, naphtha, white spirit, ethylene glycol, cyclohexanol and butanol.
