titleOfInvention Improvements in the production of oximes of cycloaliphatic ketones
abstract Cycloaliphatic oximes are prepared by introducing an alkali metal salt of a nitro-cycloalkane, preferably in the form of an aqueous solution, into an aqueous acid solution of a slight excess of a hydroxylamine salt, and separating the oxime formed, e.g. by neutralizing the acid reaction mixture to a pH value of 3 to 4. The nitro-cycloalkane may be nitrocyclohexane, -cyclopentane, -cycloheptane or -cyclo-octane. The hydroxylamine salt may be formed by the reaction of sodium nitrite with sodium hydrogen sulphite. The process may be carried out in a continuous process by pumping a mixture of the solution of the alkali metal salt of a nitro-cycloalkane together with aqueous acid solution of a hydroxylamine salt upwardly through a tower, and adding the necessary amount of alkali solution to the solution overflowing from the top of the tower, or to the solution in the upper part of the tower to adjust the pH value to 3 to 4. Two detailed examples are given.
