titleOfInvention | Improvements relating to surface discharge spark plugs and methods of making parts thereof |
abstract | In order to prevent air gaps forming between the electrodes and separating member due to differences in the co-efficients of expansion in the sparking plug described in Group XXVII, the member is made of an elastic mass of asbestos, glass fibres, heat resistant fibrous materials or other insulating material, such as mica. The impregnating agents which can be molten substances or colloidal or true solutions may be applied to the separating member before, during or after its assembly into the sparking plug. The separating member may be impregnated under pressure, or in some instances vacuum, with:-(i) chromic acid (ii) chromic acid and lead nitrate (iii) boric acid (iv) sodium acetate (v) a mixture of methyl and dimethyl silicon trichloride (vi) a silicon compound varnish (vii) lead nitrate (viii) lead nitrate and hydrochloric acid (ix) silver nitrate (x) sodium acetate and hydrochloric acid (xi) silver nitrate and hydrochloric acid (xii) silver and lead nitrates with hydrochloric acid (xiii) sodium ammonium phosphate. Where powdered mica is used for the separating member it may be impregnated with either a mixture of methyl and dimethyl silicon trichloride or a silicon compound varnish. The material may be heated at varying temperatures during and after impregnation depending upon the substances used. Specifications 631,386 and 645,403, [both in Group XXVII], are referred to. |
