titleOfInvention | Anti-fouling marine paint |
abstract | An anti-fouling marine paint comprises a pigment containing finely divided metallic copper, finely divided metallic zinc, cuprous oxide and mercuric oxide, dispersed in a resinous binder comprising chlorinated coal tar pitch, benzol and zinc resinate. The chlorinated coal tar pitch may be produced by passing 1 to 15 per cent. of chlorine into a solution of a coal tar pitch having a melting point between 160 and 200 DEG F. in benzol. Zinc resinate is then added to the chlorinated mixture; the pigment, composed as above, is added and mixed thoroughly therewith, just before use. Metal hulls are preferably given a coat of an anti-corrosive composition or paint, followed by a coat of liquid-insulating composition which preferably contains a synthetic gum such as a phenolindene-cumar complex, and one or more coats of the composition according to the invention. |
