titleOfInvention | New sulphonamide compounds and process of preparing the same |
abstract | The invention comprises 2-sulphanilamido-5-aminopyrimidine and its alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium and substituted ammonium salts, and their preparation by reacting acetylsulphanilyl chloride with 2-amino-5-benzoylaminopyrimidine, hydrolysing the reaction product with an alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxide and, if desired, neutralizing the reaction mixture to precipitate the acid form of 2-sulphanilamido-5-aminopyrimidine. In example (1) 2-amino-5-nitropyrimidine is acetylated and then hydrogenated to give 2 - acetamino - 5 - aminopyrimidine, reacted with benzoyl chloride to give 2-acetamino-5-benzoylaminopyrimidine which is then hydrolysed with potassium hydroxide solution to give 2 - amino - 5 - benzoylaminopyrimidine. The latter is then condensed with acetylsulphanilyl chloride in presence of pyrimidine, the 2 - sulphanilamido - 5 - benzoylaminopyrimidine hydrolysed with aqueous alcoholic potassium hydroxide and acidified to yield 2 - sulphanilamido - 5 - aminopyrimidine. In other examples, the product is converted to (2) the potassium salt, (3) the ammonium salt, and (4) the monoethanolamine salt by treating the product dissolved in water with the corresponding base. The lithium, sodium, magnesium and calcium salts also are referred to. |
