titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to anthelmintic compositions |
abstract | An anthelmintic composition for animals comprises a tetravalent tin compound wherein two of the valencies bear substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aryl or aralkyl groups, whilst the remaining valencies bear electronegative groups. The alkyl &c. groups may be: methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, amyl, hexyl, allyl, lauryl, butenyl, pentynyl, chlorbenzyl, phenyl, hydroxy-phenyl, aminophenyl, nitro-phenyl, tolyl, xylyl, cymyl, &c. The electronegative groups may be oxides, alkoxides, aryloxides, chlorides, bromides, iodides, fluorides, sulphides, sulphates, nitrates, phosphates, arsenates, antimonates, formates, acetates, propionates, valerates, caprylates, oleates, oxalates, maleates, malates, fumarates, citrates, phthalates, &c. They may be derived from acids bearing aromatic groups such as phenyl, diphenyl, naphthyl, &c. and from hydroxylated acids, nitro-acids, amino-acids, sulphoacids, halogenated acids, and arsenylated acid. Many specific compounds are listed. The tin compounds include complexes or polymerization products of the formula <FORM:0711563/IV (b)/1> or <FORM:0711563/IV (b)/2> wherein R1, R2 and X1, X2 represent the alkyl &c. and electronegative groups respectively. These compounds may be prepared by mixing the components <FORM:0711563/IV (b)/3> and <FORM:0711563/IV (b)/4> in hot alcohol solution, and then cooling. Examples of these compounds are basic diethyl - tin - dichloride, basic dimethyl - tin-dibromide, basic dipropyl-tin-diiodide, basic di-n-butyl-tin-dibromide, and basic tin di-n-butyl-tin-dichloride, as disclosed in Specification 711,564.ALSO:An anthelmintic composition for animals comprises a tetravalent tin compound wherein two of the tin valencies bear unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aryl or aralkyl groups, whilst the remaining valencies bear electronegative groups, and an orally ingestible, non-toxic carrier material other than water; alternatively, if water is employed as the carrier material, the composition contains 0.05-0.2 per cent of the tin compound. The carrier material may be feed, gelatin, oils, Fuller's earth, bentonite &c., and the composition may be dispensed in dosage units. Thus, it may be in the form of a gelatine capsule, or formed into tablets with ingredients such as boric acid, stearates, glucose, starch, Fuller's earth &c. The alkyl, &c. groups may be:-methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, amyl, hexyl, allyl, lauryl, butenyl, pentynyl, chlorbenzyl, phenyl, hydroxyphenyl, aminophenyl, nitrophenyl, tolyl, xylyl, cymyl &c. The electronegative groups may be oxides, alkoxides, aryloxides, chlorides, bromides, iodides, fluorides, sulphides, sulphates, nitrates, phosphates, chlorates, arsenates, antimonates, formates, acetates, propionates, valerates, caprylates, oleates, oxalates, maleates, malates, fumarates, citrates, phthalates &c. They may be derived from acids bearing aromatic groups, such as phenyl, diphenyl, naphthyl &c. and from hydroxylated acids, nitro-acids, amino-acids, sulpho-acids, halogenated acids, and arsenylated acids. Many specific compounds are listed, including compounds such as that produced according to Specification 711,564, [Group IV(b)]. |
