titleOfInvention Improvements relating to copper-containing disazo dyestuffs
abstract The invention comprises complex copper compounds from disazo dyestuffs of the general formula:- <FORM:0710797/IV(c)/1> (wherein one X represents hydrogen and the other a sulphonic acid group, Y represents a 1 : 4-phenyl or 4 : 4\sv-diphenyl radical, and Z an acylamino radical), and the preparation thereof by coupling tetrazotized o-dianisidine with the appropriate coupling components in either order and treating the resulting disazo dyestuff with an agent yielding copper. Z may be an aroylamino radical or preferably an alkoylamino radical of not more than 8 carbon atoms or an alkoxycarbonylamino radical in which the alkyl group contains not more than 9 carbon atoms. The two couplings preferably take place in an alkaline medium, the naphtholdisulphonic acid being advantageously coupled first, whilst the coppering may be effected in an aqueous solution or suspension at a raised temperature, if desired in the presence of additives such as wetting or dispersing agents or salts such as sodium phosphates or sodium chloride, the agents yielding copper being normal or complex salts of copper with inorganic or organic anions. The products, in the form of their alkali metal salts, are suitable for dyeing natural and regenerated cellulose fibres. Examples describe the use of derivatives of 2 : 5 : 7-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid in which Y is a 1 : 4-phenyl radical and Z is acetylamino, benzoylamino salicoylamino, p-toluylamino or -NHCOOR (where R is -CH3, -C2H5, -C2H4OCH3, -CH (CH2)-CH2OCH3, -C3H6OC3H6OCH3, -CH (CH9)- CH2OC2H5, -C2H4OC2H5 or -C3H6OC3 H6OC2H5), and in which Y is a 3\sv-sulpho-4 : 4\sv-diphenyl radical and Z is acetylamino. In a further example, cotton is dyed blue with the copper complex of the dyestuff 1\sv-naphthol-3 : 8- disulphonic acid \sM o-dianisidine --> 2-(4\sv-acetylaminophenylamino)-5-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid from a bath containing Glauber salt and sodium carbonate. Specification 352,956 and German Specification 196,924 are referred to.
