titleOfInvention Production of permanent patterned mechanical effects on textile fabrics
abstract A fabric having a goffered pattern in which the goffering is made permanent by impregnating the fabric at the goffered areas with a synthetic resin which is hardened after the embossing operation, is further given a chintz effect by completely impregnating the fabric with a synthetic resin precondensate, drying, submitting to friction, hardening the resin, and then washing and drying the fabric. The goffered pattern may be obtained by applying a synthetic resin precondensate locally, or by impregnating the whole fabric with the resin precondensate and applying a hardening inhibitor to the non-goffered areas, embossing the fabric, hardening the resin and then washing and drying the fabric. The fabric may be cotton percale, spun rayon, or mixed cotton and spun rayon grey goods, of a pre-dyed or printed fabric. The resin composition for fixing the goffering effects may comprise acid dyestuffs, vat pigments, free leuco compounds of vat dyestuffs or sulphuric acid esters of leuco compound of vat dyestuffs, or gold, bronze or aluminium bronze powders, or the resin composition may include a stable diazo compound the fabric afterwards being naphtholated and the naphthol compound removed from the areas not impregnated with resin or these areas being treated with a diazo compound. The dye may be washed out from the non-goffered areas of a pre-dyed fabric, or the goffered fabric may be overdyed. The synthetic resin composition for either impregnation may be condensates of formaldehyde with urea, thio-urea, ethylene-urea or its homologues, dicyandiamide, acetylene diurein (glycoluril), melamine, phenol or phenol derivatives, or mixtures of these components. Ammonium thiocyanate or chloride, tragacanth, or carob bean meal may be added. Examples are given.
